Course fees and living expenses

It is important to note that evidence of your ability to cover course fees and living expenses is a pre-requisite of enrolment and if you are an international student, entry into the UK.

The course fee of £14,100 covers all tuition, the use of hand and machine tools, all materials (within reason) that the school provides for course work, as well as entrance fees to museums and private houses. Accommodation costs and personal expenses are not covered.

As a guideline, a single person, traveling from abroad, will need at least £25,000 (approx US$ 50000 or Yen 6m) to cover travel, course fees and living expenses.

The only tools that a student will be required to purchase (at a discounted price from the school) are a set of Pfeil carving chisels (£110) and an Airshield Respirator (£120). There are no hidden costs.

A deposit of £2,000, payable on enrolment, secures a place on the course. The balance of £12,100 is payable within two weeks of the start of the course. Those students who opt to pay the balance before the start of the course receive a discount of £300.

Value for money

Our research into other training provider shows that a student would need to do at least three years at college to get the same level of tuition and practical bench work that Chippendale offers over only 36 weeks (including Christmas and Easter breaks).

When taking into account loss of earnings* and the number of hours** bench work on this intensive course (24 hours each week under supervision and a further optional 24 hours each week unsupervised), the school offers excellent value for money. This is even when compared with highly-subsidised government training courses whose fees are typically around £1,000 per year. Visit the student gallery to see what students can achieve during the 30-week course, and bear in mind that not all their work is shown here.

* The average annual UK salary is £24,769. Potential loss of earnings over three years is £74,307.

** Practical bench time on our intensive course is up to 1,500 hours over 30 weeks. Practical bench time at a typical government training centre is 900 hours over three years.
