Course fees and living expenses

Evidence of your ability to cover course fees and living expenses is naturally a pre-requisite of enrolment. Additionally international students will require a visa to enter and study in the UK.

The course fee of £14,750 covers all tuition, the use of hand and machine tools, all materials (within reason) that the school provides for course work, as well as entrance fees to museums and private houses.

The cost of board and lodgings in the area is approximately £9000.

As a guideline, a single person, traveling from abroad, will need at least £25,000 (approx US$ 40000 or Yen 4m) to cover travel, course fees and living expenses.

Chippendale School provides most of the tools you will need to become proficient in wood working and furniture making. The only tools that a student is required to purchase (heavily discounted) are a set of Pfeil carving chisels (£170) and an Airshield Respirator (£190).

A deposit of £2,750, payable on enrolment, secures a place on the course. The balance of tuition, £12,000 is payable within two weeks of the start of the course.

An investment in your future

Our intensive course covering skills from practical furniture making to design and commercial skills is the equivalent of at least three years at college. Our syllabus is designed to be more effective than other furniture making courses in both the UK and internationally. We achieve this through one to one tuition; building foundation woodworking skills to worldclass carpentary and design. Our practical bench work provides students with a future in furniture in only 36 weeks (including Christmas and Easter breaks).

It's an investment in your future and we've designed the course to provide you with the best value possible. For those changing career, a 3 year course is often unaffordable*. That's why our furniture course is designed to provide students with the same furniture design and woodworking skill set in just 9 months. Other courses offer practical furniture bench work hours of 900 over 3 years. We believe that these skills are central to our students' success and so we offer 1,500 hrs over 30 weeks. Visit the student gallery to see what students can achieve during the 30-week course, and bear in mind that not all their work is shown here.
