Furniture school social life

The Furniture School is in an ideal location, nestling in the heart of the East Lothian countryside yet only a few miles from the centre of Scotland’s vibrant capital city, Edinburgh.

There is no shortage of things to do after the school day ends or at weekends.

The nearby village of Gifford has two great pubs, the Goblin Ha’ Hotel and the Tweedale Arms and village holds a number of seasonal events and activities.

The school sits at the base of the rolling Lammermuir Hills that form a natural border between East Lothian and the Scottish Borders. They are an ideal spot for hill-walking and bird-watching.

There are over twenty golf courses within 30 minutes of the school, and three within ten minutes drive. And the famous Glenkinchie Distillery is close by for those who want to sample Scotland’s most famous export.

The ancient market town of Haddington offers a wide range of social and sporting facilities, from swimming to a top folk club. And students have even been known to take lessons in Scotland’s national instrument; the bagpipes.

One of the highlights of the student year is the annual Christmas lunch, where everyone enjoys a traditional meal, prepared by Isobel, using the best of locally sourced organic produce.
